Bangladesh Reveal Tri-Nation Squad — Two Surprise Additions Shock Fans!

The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has officially announced a 25-member national women’s football squad for the upcoming Tri-Nation Tournament to be held in Dhaka. Experienced defender Afaida Khandakar will lead the side as they face Malaysia on 26 November and Azerbaijan on 2 December in two high-intensity fixtures designed to test the team before a historic milestone.

Bangladesh are set to participate in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, scheduled for March in Australia—marking their debut appearance in the prestigious tournament. With such a significant international challenge ahead, the Tri-Nation series is viewed as a crucial component of their final phase of preparation. It offers the coaching staff an opportunity to evaluate tactical variations, player combinations and overall match fitness under competitive conditions.

The 23 players who featured against Thailand in two matches last October have all retained their places, highlighting the coaching staff’s trust in a settled and well-gelled unit. However, to create more depth within the squad, two additions have been made: Mamoni Chakma and Tonima Biswas. Mamoni has been included directly in the main 23-member squad, while Tonima joins experienced goalkeeper Ruma Akter on the standby list. Both standby players are expected to provide critical backup across key positions.

Several players have been in excellent form, both domestically and on the international stage. Midfield generals such as Maria Manda, Monica Chakma and Munki Akter continue to be instrumental in Bangladesh’s build-up play. Goalkeeper Rupna Chakma, known for her remarkable consistency, remains a pillar of confidence at the back. The blend of young talent and seasoned performers has created an exciting balance within the squad.

Coaches believe the series will serve as an important assessment before the team embarks on their Asian Cup journey. Matches against Malaysia and Azerbaijan are expected to bring varying styles of play, helping Bangladesh adjust to different tactical demands. With competition for starting positions tougher than ever, players are motivated to prove themselves ahead of a historic tournament.
