Chittagong’s young batsman Zillur Rahman marked a significant milestone in his burgeoning career by scoring his maiden first-class century. At just 21 years old and playing only his second match, Zillur remained unbeaten on 105 as Chittagong ended the first day against Rangpur on 270 for six wickets.
Chittagong had lost three wickets for 66 runs before Zillur, alongside Yasir Ali, forged a 148-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Yasir, who captains Chittagong, was dismissed for a well-made 77. Zillur’s composed innings demonstrated remarkable maturity for a player of his age, steering his team through a challenging opening session.
The day was largely dominated by the bowlers, with several sides finding runs hard to come by. Zillur’s innings, however, stood out as a masterclass in patience and timing, showcasing his ability to handle pressure and build partnerships. His elegant strokeplay and resilience at the crease provided Chittagong with a solid platform for the remaining sessions.
This performance is particularly notable given the challenging conditions, which saw many wickets tumbling early in the day. Zillur’s innings is expected to be a springboard for a promising career, signalling him as one of the rising stars in Bangladesh’s domestic cricket circuit.
