Inter Milan found themselves in desperate need of points in the Serie A table, especially after suffering defeats in their previous two matches. Goals, however, had been elusive—until Argentine forward Lautaro Martínez stepped up as the saviour. Last night, Martínez scored twice to guide Inter Milan to a 2-0 victory against Pisa, becoming the hero of the match.
Both goals came in the second half, with Martínez opening the scoring in the 69th minute to give Inter the lead before doubling the advantage in the 83rd minute. His performance not only secured crucial points but also marked a major personal milestone. This was Martínez’s 250th Serie A appearance, and he celebrated the occasion in style by etching his name into the record books.
With his brace against Pisa, Martínez achieved a remarkable feat—he has now scored against 29 different teams in Italy’s top flight, a record unmatched by any other player in Serie A history. Across 352 appearances for Inter Milan, he has netted 163 goals, firmly establishing himself as one of the club’s greatest ever players. His recent brace also saw him surpass Sandro Mazzola to become the club’s fourth-highest scorer. Just nine more goals will see him overtake Alessandro Altobelli, whose tally stands at 171, while Giuseppe Meazza remains the top scorer with 284 goals in 408 matches.
This season, Martínez has already scored ten goals across all competitions. After the match, he expressed his delight to DAZN, saying: “I’m happy because we won. After two defeats, this was exactly what we needed. I play for my team, myself, and my family, and the rest I leave to others.”
Inter Milan’s win also intensifies the battle for the Serie A title. With 13 matches played, Inter now sit on 27 points after nine wins and four losses. AC Milan and Napoli lead the table with 28 points each, but Milan’s superior goal difference keeps them at the top. The title race is heating up, with sixth-placed Como just four points behind the leaders.
