Akhtar Applauds Taskin, Nahid Among South-East Asia’s Top Pacers

Bangladesh’s pace bowling has made remarkable strides in recent years, a fact widely acknowledged across the cricketing world. The arrival of Pakistan’s legendary fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar, who holds the record for the fastest delivery in international cricket, has only heightened the excitement. Akhtar is in Dhaka to serve as mentor for the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) side Dhaka Capitals, and his presence has inevitably shifted focus to the country’s burgeoning pace attack.

Speaking at a press conference in Banani, Dhaka, Akhtar expressed his enduring affection for Bangladesh. “I will always take any opportunity to return to Bangladesh. My love for the country is immense, and I never miss a chance to come here,” he said.

Among Bangladesh’s pace bowlers, Akhtar singled out Taskin Ahmed, who will represent Dhaka Capitals this BPL season. “Taskin is bowling with complete commitment. He looks sharp, focused, and full of intensity,” Akhtar remarked. He also praised the overall pace attack, adding, “I believe they are performing well. I hope Bangladesh becomes a strong force in the upcoming World Cup.”

Reflecting on the development of Bangladesh’s fast bowling, Akhtar highlighted the contributions of Nahid Rana, Taskin, Mustafizur Rahman, Ebadot Hossain, Tanzim Hasan, and Khaled Ahmed. He commended the work of pace bowling coach Shaun Tait, describing him as “one of the best coaches for fast bowlers” and emphasising that his own mentorship would be supplementary to Tait’s expert guidance.

When asked for advice for Taskin and Nahid, Akhtar said:

“For Nahid, maintaining muscle strength and high-level training is crucial. Fast bowling places immense strain on the body. With proper conditioning, focus, and attitude, he can reach the top tier. Taskin already demonstrates these qualities—sharpness, attention, and commitment. The mental approach is vital for any fast bowler.”

Asked whether he sees Taskin and Nahid among South-East Asia’s elite pacers, Akhtar confidently replied, “Yes. Nahid is one of them, Taskin too. Others include Bumrah, Shaheen Afridi, and Naseem Shah. Pakistan also has several genuinely fast bowlers.”

Akhtar also praised Bangladesh’s young talent, notably Liton Das, and expressed belief in the team’s potential to perform on the global stage, especially in T20 tournaments.
