Jack Grealish has expressed deep disappointment after undergoing surgery for a stress fracture in his foot, following an injury sustained on 18 January during Everton’s 1–0 victory over his former club Aston Villa. The English winger, on loan from Manchester City, admitted he had not envisaged ending the season in such a way.
Posting on Instagram, Grealish wrote:
“I didn’t want the season to end like this—but that’s football. It’s incredibly frustrating. The surgery has been completed, and now my full focus is on returning to fitness as quickly as possible. I’m determined to come back stronger, fitter, and better than before.”
The injury has also dashed any hopes of Grealish being included in England’s World Cup squad later this year. His recent performances for Everton had sparked discussions about a potential return to the national team and a place in the tournament roster. The 30-year-old last represented England under interim coach Lee Carsley in October 2024.
Grealish’s club career has been equally notable. He moved from Aston Villa to Manchester City in 2021 for a record £100 million. Since then, he has won three Premier League titles, a Champions League, and an FA Cup. However, he struggled to find a regular place under Pep Guardiola last season, starting only seven league matches and being omitted from the Club World Cup squad in the United States, prompting his loan move to Everton.
This season, Grealish featured in 22 matches for Everton across all competitions, contributing two goals and six assists. His impact on the pitch, combined with his experience, has made him a key figure in the squad despite the setback.
| Player | Club | Appearances (2025–26) | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|---|

In a heartfelt message following his surgery, Grealish also praised the support he has received at Everton:
“The support I’ve received since joining this incredible club has meant so much. The coaching staff, my teammates, and especially the fans have been fantastic. I’m truly proud to represent this club. I’ll do everything I can to return to the pitch as quickly as possible, and until then, I’ll continue to support the team. Thank you again for all the love—it really means a lot to me.”
With recovery now underway, all eyes will be on how quickly Grealish can return to action and whether he can reclaim a place at the top level before the end of the season.
