Brazil Plans to Extend Ancelotti Contract

Brazilian football is set to maintain continuity at the helm as the national team prepares for the next World Cup cycle. Coach Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is planning to extend his contract until the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

The 66-year-old Italian tactician assumed managerial duties in May, taking over from Dorival Júnior after a series of disappointing results. Initially, Ancelotti’s contract was set to run until the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, but he has expressed a clear desire to oversee a full four-year World Cup cycle.

Speaking at a press conference at the CBF headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, Ancelotti said, “There is no problem regarding the extension of my contract. When both parties want to continue the relationship, there are no obstacles.”

The coach immediately faced the challenge of completing the South American World Cup qualifiers upon his appointment. Under his leadership, the Seleção have played 33 matches, achieving a mixture of victories, draws, and losses. Despite some inconsistent results, the team has demonstrated tactical improvements, particularly in transitioning from defence to attack.

Ancelotti, who previously managed elite European clubs such as AC Milan and Real Madrid, also joked during the press conference that it is preferable to finalise the contract extension sooner rather than later. “If the extension is done before the World Cup, the costs are lower. If we wait until after, it will be more expensive. I am very confident,” he said.

Football analysts highlight that Ancelotti’s experience and tactical acumen have already begun to influence the team positively. His balanced approach, combining veteran leadership with emerging young talents, has brought greater cohesion to the squad. The coach has also emphasised adaptability in high-pressure matches, which is considered crucial for Brazil’s ambitions on the global stage.

The CBF is expected to formalise the contract extension either before or shortly after the 2026 World Cup. Supporters and experts alike view the move as a strategic decision to ensure stability and continuity, key factors in preparing the Seleção for potential success in the 2030 World Cup.

With Ancelotti at the helm for the long term, Brazil aims not only to compete but to reclaim their historic dominance on football’s most prestigious stage.
