Ajinkya Naik has once again emerged as the uncontested President of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), securing a second consecutive term following an emphatic victory by his panel in the latest elections. Naik’s team, widely recognised as the Pawar-Shelar Group, dominated the polls by winning 12 out of 16 key positions, cementing their control over Mumbai’s cricket administration.
Speaking after the announcement of the results on Wednesday evening, Naik expressed his gratitude and optimism:
“This is a victory for our Maidan clubs, the secretaries, and every cricketer – men and women alike. It’s a win for the entire Mumbai Cricket family,” he said.
Naik’s success was strongly endorsed by influential figures such as Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sharad Pawar, former head of the MCA, BCCI, and ICC. He also acknowledged the contributions of Minister Ashish Shelar in helping consolidate support for his panel. “This victory wouldn’t have been possible without the guidance and encouragement of Hon’ble Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ji and Sharad Pawar ji,” Naik added.
Other significant office-bearers elected include Unmesh Khanvilkar as Secretary, who defeated Shahalam Shaikh, and Jitendra Awhad as Vice-President, overcoming Navin Shetty. Nilesh Bhosle secured the position of Joint Secretary by beating Gaurav Payyade, while Arman Mallick emerged victorious as Treasurer, defeating Surendra Shewale. The MCA Apex Council also welcomed new members including Sandeep Vichare, Suraj Samat, Vighnesh Kadam, Milind Narvekar, Bhushan Patil, Nadim Memon, Vikas Repale, Pramod Yadav, and Neil Savant.
Cricket analysts have hailed Naik’s re-election as a step towards stability and continuity in the administration of one of India’s most historic cricket hubs. Observers anticipate that his tenure will focus on youth development programmes, infrastructure enhancements, and transparent governance – areas that have long required attention within Mumbai cricket.
