Arteta Says ‘Special’ Rice Has More to Offer Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is confident that Declan Rice has even more to offer ahead of the England international’s upcoming clash with Chelsea’s midfield stars Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

The trio, costing over £300 million collectively ($397 million), have been among the Premier League’s best performers this season. Arsenal, six points clear of Chelsea, will face their London rivals at Stamford Bridge this Sunday.

Rice recently revealed that he voted for Caicedo in his 2024/25 team of the year, yet Arteta believes Rice can continue to improve.

“Being with him every day, understanding and connecting with him, we’re going to get more from him,” said Arteta. “His impact on the team is huge. The team knows him better, his role is growing.”

Rice made his name at West Ham in a deep-lying role, but Arteta has developed him in a more advanced midfield position.

“I knew him for a long time and knew how he could evolve and change the team,” Arteta added. “He has done it and probably exceeded expectations.”

Arteta also values Rice’s leadership. With Arsenal aiming to end their 19-year wait for a Premier League title, Rice plays a crucial role.

“He comes here and has earned the right to increase his role. He’s present in everything we do and is part of the leadership group,” Arteta explained. “He doesn’t need the armband to feel connected and important in the team.”

Rice’s leadership, influence, and growing impact position Arsenal strongly for their clash with Chelsea.
