Shanto admitted post-toss that he too would have preferred to bat first, indicating that Bangladesh might need to work diligently in the early stages. “The wicket looks ideal for batting, especially as the day progresses,” he noted, signalling that the hosts will have to rely on patience and precision against Ireland’s batting line-up.
A key talking point for this match is the Test debut of left-arm spinner Hasan Murad, who becomes Bangladesh’s 108th Test cricketer. Murad has already showcased his skill in first-class cricket, taking 165 wickets in 39 matches and consistently troubling opposition batsmen.
