After two and a half years, Barcelona made a spectacular return to Camp Nou, marking the occasion with a dominant 4–0 win over Athletic Bilbao. The Catalan giants celebrated their homecoming in style, and the victory temporarily propelled them to the top of La Liga’s points table.
Having won ten of their thirteen matches this season, Barcelona now have 31 points, the same as one-match-behind Real Madrid. However, the Blaugrana lead the league on goal difference, and if Real fail to win against Elche in their upcoming fixture, Barcelona could extend their stay at the summit.
The Camp Nou gallery is still under renovation, meaning only around 45,000 fans were able to attend, less than half of its full capacity. Next season, when the renovations are complete, the stadium will be able to host 105,000 spectators.
The match itself began with a dazzling display. Polish striker Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, giving Barcelona an early lead. Ferran Torres then doubled the advantage in added time of the first half.
In the second half, Fermín López made it 3–0 in the third minute, before Torres sealed the emphatic 4–0 win in the 90th minute. A key moment came in the 54th minute when Bilbao midfielder Sancet fouled Fermín, earning a red card and leaving Bilbao to play with ten men for over half an hour.
This resounding victory not only provided three points but also gave Barcelona fans a thrilling and memorable return to their historic stadium, reaffirming the team’s dominance in Spanish football.
