Barcelona continued their impressive UEFA Champions League campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Galatasaray away from home. Despite falling behind in the first half, Hansi Flick’s side produced a strong comeback, scoring once before the break and adding three more goals in the second half. The victory secured their second consecutive win in the competition and extended their winning run to 10 matches across all competitions at the start of the season.

The match took place late on Tuesday night, 13 October, with Barcelona dominating possession and creating the majority of the scoring opportunities. The Catalan side controlled 71 per cent of the ball and registered 22 shots, 11 of which were on target. Galatasaray, meanwhile, managed five attempts, with three finding the target, but struggled to contain the visitors’ attacking threat.

Barcelona started brightly, looking to dictate the pace through possession and quick passing. Dani Olmo created the first notable opportunity in the seventh minute, but his shot was saved by the Galatasaray goalkeeper. Although the assistant referee initially raised the offside flag, replays showed that the Spanish midfielder had been onside.

In the 16th minute, Anthony Gordon controlled a lofted pass from Pedri with his chest before attempting a shot. However, the goalkeeper dealt comfortably with the effort. Olmo subsequently sent a header wide as Barcelona continued to search for the opening goal.

Against the run of play, Galatasaray took the lead in the 28th minute. Rafael Leão delivered the ball into a dangerous area, allowing Alexei Batrakov to shoot. His effort struck Barcelona defender João Cancelo and changed direction before finding the back of the net, putting the hosts ahead.

Galatasaray appeared to double their advantage three minutes later, but the goal was ruled out for offside. The decision proved significant as Barcelona remained within reach and continued to push forward in search of an equaliser.

Their persistence paid off in the 43rd minute. After Olmo attempted a shot, Gordon allowed the ball to run past him, and Cancelo arrived from behind to finish accurately into the far corner. The Portuguese defender’s goal restored parity at 1-1 just before half-time.

Barcelona returned from the break with greater intensity and quickly took control of the match. Their attacking pressure produced three goals within the opening 20 minutes of the second half, leaving Galatasaray struggling to recover.

Fermín López put Barcelona ahead in the 50th minute. Following a corner, the ball came back into play, and Lamine Yamal delivered a cross into the penalty area. López rose to head home from close range, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead.

Just three minutes later, Barcelona extended their advantage through Gordon, who scored his first Champions League goal for the club. Pedri supplied the ball to Yamal, who kept it in play near the goal line before cutting it back to his team-mate. Gordon took full advantage of the opportunity, finishing confidently to make it 3-1.

The visitors continued to exploit gaps in Galatasaray’s defence, and their fourth goal arrived in the 65th minute. German forward Karim Adeyemi capitalised on a loose ball that deflected off Gabriel Jesus. Moving quickly, Adeyemi struck a low shot into the far corner to complete Barcelona’s scoring and strengthen their grip on the match.

Barcelona had further opportunities to increase their lead in the closing stages. Adeyemi’s volley from a Yamal cross was cleared off the goal line by Galatasaray’s Roland Sallai. Later, Gabriel Jesus attempted to score from another pass by Yamal, but goalkeeper Ugurcan Çakır produced a save to deny him.

Although Yamal did not score, he played a decisive role in the victory by providing two assists. His movement and creativity repeatedly troubled the home side’s defence, while Pedri and Olmo helped Barcelona maintain their attacking momentum. The visitors’ greater intensity after half-time proved decisive in turning a competitive contest into a comfortable win.

The result preserved Barcelona’s perfect record in the Champions League league phase. They have now scored nine goals in two matches, having beaten Feyenoord 5-1 in their opening fixture.

Barcelona’s ability to recover after conceding the opening goal highlighted their attacking strength and composure under pressure. Their three-goal burst in the second half also demonstrated how effectively they could turn possession into clear scoring opportunities.

With two wins from two matches, Flick’s side have made an encouraging start to their European campaign. Maintaining this form will be important as Barcelona seek to remain among the leading contenders in Europe’s premier club competition.
