Brazil and Japan are set to renew their rivalry just months after their dramatic meeting at the 2026 World Cup, with the two sides scheduled to face each other at the Mizuho Blue Challenge in Singapore in November.
The four-team international tournament will also feature Paraguay and hosts Singapore. The matches are scheduled to take place at the Singapore National Stadium during the FIFA international window from 13 to 17 November.
Brazil and Japan will meet on 14 November, in what will be their second encounter of the year. Their previous meeting came in the last-32 stage of the 2026 World Cup in Houston, United States. Brazil prevailed 2–1, securing a place in the last 16 after Gabriel Martinelli scored in stoppage time.
The late defeat ended Japan’s World Cup campaign and gave the fixture an added edge ahead of their reunion in Singapore. Although the November contest will be classified as a friendly, Japan will have an opportunity to respond on the pitch against the same opponent that eliminated them from the tournament.
The Mizuho Blue Challenge will begin on 13 November, when Singapore take on Paraguay. Brazil and Japan will then meet the following day. The competition will conclude on 17 November with two fixtures: Brazil will face Singapore before Japan take on Paraguay.
For Brazil, the Singapore tournament forms part of an active international schedule following the World Cup. The team, coached by Carlo Ancelotti, are due to play two friendly matches against Australia in September. The first is scheduled for 25 September in Queensland, followed by another in Brisbane on 29 September.
Brazil are then expected to travel to Kolkata for a match against India on 3 October at the Salt Lake Stadium. It is set to be Brazil’s first meeting with India, adding another notable fixture to their post-World Cup programme.
The November tournament will therefore provide Ancelotti with another opportunity to assess his squad and maintain competitive momentum during the international calendar. For Japan, however, the encounter carries a more immediate sporting significance.
Their previous meeting was decided by a goal in the closing moments. This time, with both teams returning to the same rivalry on neutral ground in Singapore, Japan will have the chance to seek a different outcome while Brazil will look to maintain their recent advantage over their Asian opponents.
