Premier League Farewell Day Marks End Of Football Eras

The 2025–26 English Premier League season concludes today, with all 20 clubs scheduled to play simultaneously at 9:00pm Bangladesh time. Alongside the final round of fixtures, the closing day of the campaign will also mark the departures of several prominent figures who have become closely associated with their respective clubs over many years.

The most significant farewell is expected at Manchester City, where manager Pep Guardiola will oversee his final match in charge. Midfielder Bernardo Silva and defender John Stones are also set to make their final appearances for the club.

Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016 and transformed the club into one of the dominant forces in English and European football. During his tenure, City won six Premier League titles and one UEFA Champions League title, collecting 20 trophies overall. Between 2021 and 2024, the club secured four consecutive league championships, while also winning the Champions League for the first time in its history.

Two players who played key roles during that period are also leaving. Stones arrived in 2016 alongside Guardiola and is ending a decade-long spell after making 294 appearances for the club. Bernardo Silva joined in 2017 and became a central figure in City’s midfield. Over nine seasons, the Portuguese international played 459 matches and scored 76 goals.

Reports surrounding the players’ futures continue to circulate. Silva has been linked with Atlético Madrid and Juventus, while Stones has reportedly attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Everton.

Elsewhere in Manchester, Manchester United are also preparing to part ways with Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder joined from Real Madrid in 2022 and is leaving after four seasons. The 34-year-old has been linked with Inter Miami CF, the club featuring Lionel Messi.

At Liverpool, the final home match against Brentford will serve as a farewell occasion for Mohamed Salah and Andrew Robertson. Salah, now 33, spent nine years at Anfield and established himself as one of the club’s most successful forwards.

During that period, the Egyptian played 441 matches and scored 257 goals, becoming Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time. He also leaves as the Premier League’s highest-scoring foreign player with 191 league goals.

Robertson, who joined Liverpool in the same transfer window as Salah in 2017, is also departing after nine seasons. The Scotland international made 377 appearances and remained the club’s first-choice left-back for much of that period.
