Scaloni Tinkers with Line-up for Egypt Round of 16 Clash

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has revised his starting line-up, making three vital personnel changes for tonight’s crucial World Cup round-of-16 encounter against Egypt. The high-stakes knockout fixture kicks off on Tuesday at 10:00 pm Bangladesh Standard Time. With a quarter-final berth on the line, the South American champions have adjusted their tactical shape to dismantle the organised defensive low-block characteristic of their North African opponents.

The most significant defensive boost comes on the left flank. Experienced full-back Nicolás Tagliafico returns to the starting eleven after successfully overcoming a recent fitness setback. Facundo Medina, who deputised for Tagliafico in the previous match, drops to the substitutes’ bench tonight after suffering from acute muscle tightness during training earlier this week. Tagliafico’s defensive discipline and overlapping runs are expected to provide essential stability to a backline tasked with tracking dangerous wide counter-attacks.

Scaloni has also chosen to reshuffle his attacking options, introducing more dynamism up front. Striker Lautaro Martínez, who started Argentina’s first four tournament fixtures, drops to the bench to make way for Julián Álvarez. Although Martínez converted a crucial penalty against Jordan, his overall link-up play lacked its usual fluidity during the round-of-32 fixture. In contrast, young forward Álvarez has fully shaken off a troublesome left ankle injury. His high pressing rate and intelligent off-the-ball runs earned him the nod to spearhead the attack alongside captain Lionel Messi.

The final tactical alteration is situated in the centre of the pitch. Following a somewhat disjointed midfield display against Cape Verde, Leandro Paredes has been drafted into the starting line-up to inject defensive steel and dictatorial passing from deep. The veteran midfielder impressed the coaching staff with a commanding performance off the bench in the previous game. His inclusion sees Thiago Almada drop out of the starting lineup, allowing Alexis Mac Allister to push further forward into a creative attacking midfield role.

Spine of the Team Remains Intact

The remainder of the squad retains its familiar spine, anchored by tournament specialist Emiliano Martínez in goal. Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martínez maintain their robust central defensive partnership, flanked by Nahuel Molina on the right. Rodrigo De Paul and Enzo Fernández complete the midfield engine room alongside Paredes, while Mac Allister links up with Messi, who operates in his traditional free role behind Álvarez.

Argentina Confirmed Starting Eleven: Emiliano Martínez (GK), Nahuel Molina, Cristian Romero, Lisandro Martínez, Nicolás Tagliafico, Rodrigo De Paul, Enzo Fernández, Leandro Paredes, Alexis Mac Allister, Lionel Messi, Julián Álvarez.
