Just a day after the men’s futsal team suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Pakistan, the Bangladesh women’s football team delivered a resounding response. On Thursday, in the SAFF Futsal Championship at Nonthaburi Hall, Bangkok, Pakistan had defeated Bangladesh 5-1, eliminating Saeed Khodarahmi’s squad from the title race.
On Friday, however, the Bangladesh women faced Pakistan and exacted emphatic revenge. In a dominant performance, the Bengali Tigresses thrashed Pakistan 9-1, showcasing a combination of tactical brilliance and clinical finishing. Captain Sabina Khatun starred with four goals, while Krishna Rani Sarkar and Naushin Jahan each contributed two goals. The ninth goal came courtesy of Nilufa Yasmin Neela.
With this victory, Bangladesh now sits at the top of the league with 13 points from five matches, having won four games and drawn once. India, in second place with 9 points, has played one fewer match, leaving the title race wide open.
The team began the tournament with a 3-1 victory over a strong Indian side, followed by a 3-3 draw against Bhutan. Bangladesh then bounced back emphatically with successive wins, defeating Nepal 3-0 and Sri Lanka 6-2. Friday’s match continued this momentum.
The game’s opening minutes set the tone. In the 7th minute, a well-orchestrated attack saw Matsushima Sumaiya cross Krishna’s pass into the box, where Sabina finished with a precise tap-in. Neela doubled the lead shortly after with a left-footed strike from just outside the circle, followed by Naushin scoring twice in quick succession to make it 4-0. In the closing minutes of the first half, Bangladesh added two more goals, with Krishna and Sabina again finding the net, leaving Pakistan stunned.
In the second half, Bangladesh maintained control without pushing excessively for goals. Krishna scored her second, Anmol Hira added another, and Sabina completed her hat-trick with two further goals, sealing a comprehensive 9-1 victory.
