England’s preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup have been disrupted following the theft of training equipment from their base camp in Kansas City. The English delegation arrived at their tournament headquarters slightly later than other competing nations due to their opening fixture being scheduled for the night of 17 June. However, prior to the squad’s arrival on Saturday, an official complaint was lodged regarding stolen items.
According to a report by the BBC, the theft occurred before Harry Kane and his teammates landed in Kansas City. The Football Association (FA) is currently conducting an internal assessment to determine the exact inventory of the missing property. Initial findings indicate that the stolen items include official tournament footballs and players’ boots. The incident took place at the Swope Soccer Village, which serves as the designated training hub for the English team.
Key Equipment Missing Ahead of First Session
The Guardian further reported that the stolen items include the football boots of prominent England players, alongside a selection of official training balls and related coaching apparatus. The theft occurred just before the squad’s inaugural training session under the management of Thomas Tuchel, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon.
When contacted by the press for an official statement regarding the security breach, the Football Association declined to comment. However, the matter has been formally reported to local law enforcement. Police officers collaborating with the FA arrived at the Swope Soccer Village on Friday night to inspect the site and initiate an investigation.
Tournament Outlook and Group Fixtures
Despite the disruption, England’s tournament schedule remains unchanged. The 1966 World Cup winners are entering the tournament under the stewardship of Tuchel with significant expectations.
England have been drawn in Group L alongside European rivals Croatia, Ghana, and Panama. Their campaign will officially begin on Wednesday night (18 June at 02:00 BST / local time equivalent) against Croatia.
