Global football governance has plunged into controversy following serious allegations levelled against the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein, the former vice-president of FIFA, has claimed that the governing body is intentionally withholding substantial prize money owed to the Jordan Football Association as a tactic to secure political backing for incumbent president Gianni Infantino.
The dispute stems from the dramatic final of the FIFA Arab Cup, hosted at Qatar’s iconic Lusail Stadium on the eighteenth of December 2025. In a fiercely contested title match, Jordan fought valiantly but ultimately suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat against Morocco after extra time, finishing the prestigious tournament as runners-up. Under standard tournament financial structures, the Jordanian FA was entitled to receive prize money valued at approximately forty crore Bangladeshi taka. However, months have passed, and the financial reward remains unpaid, prompting mounting frustration within the national sports administration.
Prince Ali took to social media to air these grievances, alleging that FIFA officials made it clear that the funds would only be released if Jordan publicly aligned with Infantino’s leadership and administration. According to the claims, the association was promised generous administrative assistance and various developmental perks in exchange for their political endorsement. Standing firm against what they perceive as coercive tactics, Jordanian officials refused to compromise their integrity, leading to the continued freezing of their earned revenues.
The situation has escalated beyond bilateral complaints, with Jordan formally notifying the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) about the standoff. Prince Ali criticised the glaring hypocrisy of the global governing body, pointing out that while FIFA frequently boasts about its overflowing financial reserves and commitment to global game development, it routinely neglects and penalises member associations that refuse to bow to internal political pressure. Over the past few months, channels of cooperation between FIFA and the Jordanian FA have reportedly broken down entirely, leaving the regional body isolated amid an ongoing battle for fair treatment and administrative accountability within international sport.
