Bangladesh’s senior assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin has decided to step down from his role with the national cricket team following the upcoming Ireland series, bringing an early end to his stint that began just a year ago.
According to a report published by the cricket-based news portal Cricbuzz, Salahuddin has already submitted his resignation letter to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The report mentioned that the highly regarded local coach was no longer enjoying his responsibilities, which led him to make the decision.
When contacted, Salahuddin declined to provide detailed comments but confirmed the news of his resignation, saying simply:
“Yes, I am resigning.”
Background and Tenure
Salahuddin, one of Bangladesh’s most respected coaches, was appointed as senior assistant coach in November last year, with a contract that was initially set to run until the 2027 ICC One-Day World Cup. However, his tenure is now expected to end much earlier than planned.
After the departure of David Hemp, Salahuddin was also handed interim responsibility as the national team’s batting coach. In recent months, Bangladesh’s batting unit has struggled to maintain consistency, drawing criticism from fans and analysts alike, which reportedly contributed to his growing dissatisfaction.
New Appointment and Team Preparation
In a strategic move ahead of the Ireland series, the BCB has appointed Mohammad Ashraful—a former Bangladesh captain and one of the country’s most talented batsmen—as a specialist batting coach. The board expects his experience to strengthen the side’s preparation and boost player morale.
Upcoming Fixtures
Ireland are scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on Thursday for a full tour consisting of two Tests and three T20 internationals. The itinerary is as follows:
| Format | Match | Venue | Date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Test 1 | Bangladesh vs Ireland | Sylhet | 11 November |
| Test 2 | Bangladesh vs Ireland | Dhaka | 19 November |
| T20I 1 | Bangladesh vs Ireland | Chattogram | 27 November |
| T20I 2 | Bangladesh vs Ireland | Chattogram | 29 November |
| T20I 3 | Bangladesh vs Ireland | Chattogram | 2 December |
Following the Test series, both teams will travel to Chattogram for the T20I leg, where Bangladesh are expected to experiment with a few young players in preparation for next year’s T20 World Cup.
A Respected Figure in Bangladesh Cricket
Salahuddin’s decision to resign marks the end of a significant chapter for the Bangladesh team. Over the years, he has mentored several of the country’s finest cricketers, including Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, and Mushfiqur Rahim, all of whom credit him for shaping their early careers.
His departure, just ahead of a crucial international series, is likely to prompt internal reshuffling within the BCB’s coaching structure. The board has yet to make an official announcement regarding his replacement, but insiders suggest that discussions are already underway to fill the soon-to-be-vacant position.
With Salahuddin set to leave, Bangladesh cricket will lose one of its most technically astute and tactically sharp minds, whose influence extended far beyond the dressing room.
