Messi Presented with the Key to the City of Miami

Argentina’s World Cup-winning captain, Lionel Messi, was presented with the symbolic key to the city of Miami by the city’s mayor, Francis Suarez.

The honour was bestowed on Messi last Wednesday at the Casaya Centre during the America Business Forum. At the event, Mayor Suarez handed Messi the city’s traditional ceremonial key as a mark of respect and recognition for his contributions to football.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mayor Suarez said:
“For our city, this country, and the world of football, what you have achieved is truly remarkable. It is in gratitude for this that we wanted to present you with this key. Thank you.”

Jorge Mas, one of the co-owners of Inter Miami, also addressed Messi, stating,
“I wanted to say a few words—our captain, our number ten. On behalf of this city, this is a small gift for you, filled with our hearts.”

He added,
“This gesture is not only for you but also extends to your wife, Antonela, and your wonderful family.”

Messi, clearly delighted by the recognition, expressed his gratitude. The all-time top scorer for Inter Miami in a single season said:
“Thank you, I am truly honoured. We really feel so much love here. Living in this city makes us extremely grateful and happy, and receiving this special recognition is a tremendous honour for me.”

He further remarked,
“We are very happy here—my family, the children, everyone. We are adjusting well to the environment and enjoying our time immensely.”

This gesture highlights both the city of Miami’s appreciation for Messi and the deep connection the football superstar has built with the community during his time in the United States.
