Real Madrid suffered a heavy 2–0 defeat at home to Celta Vigo on Sunday night. Despite dominating possession and attacks, Real failed to score. Swedish midfielder Williot Swidberg scored twice, in the 54th and added-time third minute.
Two red cards worsened Real’s situation. Fran Garcia left after a second yellow, Alvaro Carreras received a red after disputing a referee decision, and bench player Endrik also received a red card. This marked the first time in 20 years that two players were sent off in a home La Liga match.
After the match, Javi Alonso said, “We are frustrated. I was not happy with the refereeing. We must forget this quickly and move on. It’s just three points. We have a chance to recover against Manchester City in the Champions League.”
This loss increased the gap with leaders Barcelona to four points. Real’s next target is to recover in the Champions League match.
