Manchester, 23 January 2026 – Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to leave the club at the end of the current season, the English giants confirmed in an official statement yesterday. The 33-year-old Brazilian, a former Real Madrid star, will not be taking up the one-year contract extension option offered by the club.
Casemiro shared an emotional message on social media reflecting on his time at Old Trafford. Alongside a video montage of his United moments, he wrote:
“I have decided that these will be my final four months at Old Trafford. Forever grateful. Forever a Red Devil.”
He added:
“Manchester United will always be with me. From the very first day I stepped into this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford. The love from the fans has become my own.”
The Brazilian joined Manchester United in August 2022 for a reported fee of £60 million from Real Madrid. Since then, he has been a cornerstone of the Red Devils’ midfield, appearing in 146 matches and scoring 21 goals. His contributions were instrumental in United’s cup successes, including the 2023 EFL Cup final, where he scored a headed goal in a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United, and in the 2024 FA Cup triumph.
Despite announcing his departure, Casemiro is determined to finish his United journey on a high note. He said:
“This is not the time to say goodbye. Four more months remain to create memories. There is still much to fight for together. My sole focus remains giving everything for the team’s success.”
Manchester United praised Casemiro for his leadership, work ethic, and influence in crucial matches. The club’s statement read:
“His warrior spirit and ability to impact big games have made him a fan favourite. On the field, he brings balance to both defence and attack at key moments.”
Casemiro has also faced challenges during his tenure. The 2023–24 season saw criticism due to inconsistent form, with rumours of potential offers from Saudi Arabia circulating. Nevertheless, he chose to remain in Europe and reassert himself at Old Trafford.
Currently, Manchester United sit fifth in the Premier League table, 15 points behind leaders Arsenal. The Red Devils will face the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium this Sunday in a crucial clash.
