Christie’s Auctions Iconic World Cup Memorabilia for Children’s Education
Iconic moments from the global football showcase are heading to the auction block. New York-based auction house Christie’s has announced a high-profile online sale featuring autographed jerseys from Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, official match balls from the final, and performance wear worn by pop icon Shakira.
The online auction begins on 22 July and runs for a full week. Proceeds generated from the sale will directly support global educational development initiatives for children. Organisers behind the campaign have set an ambitious target of raising one hundred million US dollars to fund youth education programmes throughout the duration of the tournament.
Operating in partnership with FIFA and the international advocacy organisation Global Citizen, the “One Goal Charity Auction” will feature more than forty distinct pieces of tournament memorabilia. Collectors and fans can bid on artist-worn costumes, autographed player kits, and official match equipment. Intense bidding early on has already drawn significant attention toward a jersey belonging to BTS singer Jimin, worn during the half-time segment of the final match. Meanwhile, the official ball deployed during the 19 July final carries a starting reserve price of fifteen thousand US dollars, though market analysts anticipate it could fetch double that amount.
Among the standout items capturing public imagination is the vibrant yellow crop top and matching trousers worn by Colombian pop star Shakira in the official music video for the 2026 World Cup anthem, “Dai Dai”. Also included in the catalogue is a special jersey bearing the signatures of the United States men’s national team squad.
The collection features attire worn during the historic first-ever World Cup final half-time show. Shakira is slated to headline the eleven-minute entertainment spectacle alongside legendary performers Madonna, Justin Bieber, and South Korean sensation BTS. By blending elite sports culture with philanthropic outreach, the auction transforms treasured sporting artefacts into crucial funding streams for children worldwide.
