The Hurricanes entered the final three overs needing 19 runs with four wickets in hand—a position many expected them to negotiate comfortably given their form. Gardner, who had conceded 34 runs in her first three overs, was entrusted with the ball in this crucial juncture. What followed was a masterclass in composure and skill.
Gardner’s first delivery removed Hayley Silver-Holmes, her stumps shattered by the precise yorker. Molly Strano followed, attempting a similar lofted shot and falling victim to the same fate. The final ball of the over accounted for Lauren Smith, miscued to a well-positioned Sophia Dunkley at extra cover.
