Pep Guardiola’s 1,000th match in management proved a memorable milestone for Manchester City, as they celebrated the occasion with a dominant 3–0 win over Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico González and Jérémy Doku sealed a comfortable victory for the hosts.
Although City missed a few chances early on, their attacking intent remained relentless. Liverpool briefly thought they had scored through Virgil van Dijk, but the effort was ruled out for offside. City maintained their control, and Haaland broke the deadlock in the 29th minute before González doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time.
In the second half, City continued to dictate play, and Doku’s well-taken strike in the 63rd minute put the result beyond doubt. Despite Liverpool’s attempts to respond, goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s heroics ensured the clean sheet remained intact.
The result sees Liverpool drop to eighth place with 18 points from 11 matches, following their fifth defeat of the season. City, meanwhile, climb to second with 22 points from seven wins, sitting just behind leaders Arsenal. After the international break, City will face Newcastle United on 22 November, while Liverpool will take on Nottingham Forest.
