Real Madrid’s end-of-season concerns have intensified following an injury to forward Kylian Mbappé during the 1–1 draw against Real Betis in La Liga. The result leaves Madrid eight points behind Barcelona, significantly reducing their prospects of winning the league title this season.
The match took place at the Benito Villamarín Stadium, where Mbappé reached a personal milestone by making his 100th appearance for Real Madrid. Despite the significance of the occasion, he did not score and later had to leave the field due to injury.
Mbappé appeared to experience discomfort in the 83rd minute of the match. He subsequently signalled to the bench and was substituted shortly afterwards, walking off the pitch with a visible limp. Following the match, club sources indicated that the issue involves his left hamstring. Such injuries are commonly associated with excessive muscular strain, affecting the posterior thigh muscles.
Real Madrid head coach Álvaro Arbeloa stated that the exact severity of the injury had not yet been determined. He said: “We cannot say clearly at this moment how Mbappé is. He was feeling some discomfort. We will monitor the situation over the next few days.”
The injury adds to a series of fitness problems affecting Real Madrid throughout the season. Midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni has already been sidelined. In addition, it was confirmed two days earlier that Arda Güler and Éder Militão have both been ruled out for the remainder of the season. Mbappé’s situation is therefore a further setback for the squad during a critical phase of the campaign.
With approximately one and a half months remaining in the season, the club faces a congested schedule and limited recovery time for injured players. Attention is now focused on the medical assessment of Mbappé, which will determine his availability for upcoming fixtures, including matches scheduled for 3 May against Espanyol and 10 May against Barcelona.
The situation is also being closely monitored in the context of international football commitments, with the upcoming FIFA World Cup cycle approaching. As France’s captain, Mbappé’s fitness status is of significance not only to Real Madrid but also to the France national team setup.
At present, Real Madrid are awaiting detailed medical reports to establish the extent of the hamstring issue and to outline a recovery timeline. No official confirmation has yet been provided regarding the duration of his absence.
