The Brazilian national football team has received a significant boost ahead of their final group stage fixture at the World Cup. Following their 3-0 victory over Haiti, head coach Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that the team’s talismanic forward, Neymar, has successfully recovered from his injury and will be available for selection for the upcoming match against Scotland on Wednesday.
Neymar was sidelined for Brazil’s opening two matches in Group C. In his absence, the South American side registered a 1-1 draw against Morocco before securing a comprehensive win against Haiti. Speaking at the post-match press conference following the victory over Haiti, Ancelotti provided a positive update on the 34-year-old forward’s recovery timeline.
“Neymar will train individually tomorrow,” Ancelotti stated. “Following this, he will integrate into full team training with the rest of the squad on Monday. He will be available for selection for the match against Scotland.”
Injury Timeline and Qualification Impact
The forward, who has faced several physical setbacks throughout his career, sustained his latest injury on 17 May whilst playing for his club side, Santos. Initial assessments released by Santos indicated that the player had suffered minor muscular swelling. Despite the injury occurring just prior to the tournament, team management elected to retain him in the final World Cup squad.
Upon joining the national team training camp a week later, medical examinations conducted by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) revealed that Neymar had actually sustained a grade-two muscle injury, with an estimated recovery period of three weeks. That recovery window officially concluded on 17 June, clearing the path for his imminent return.
Prior to the tournament, physical setbacks had also restricted Neymar’s appearances during the 2026 World Cup qualification campaign. However, his limited time on the pitch proved highly effective. In just four qualifying appearances, he scored two goals and provided three assists, demonstrating the offensive efficiency Brazil will hope to leverage during the remainder of the tournament.
Group C Standings and Directives
Following the second round of fixtures, Brazil occupy the top spot in Group C on goal difference, level on four points with Morocco. Morocco secured a 1-0 victory over Scotland earlier in the day, leaving the Scottish team in third place with three points.
Ancelotti emphasised the strategic importance of securing the top spot in the group to ensure a more favourable pathway in the knockout stages.
“Advancing to the next round as the group winners is crucial for our subsequent matches,” Ancelotti remarked. “Therefore, we intend to prepare thoroughly for the Scotland fixture. Scotland possess specific strengths that can cause us difficulties, as they demonstrated today against Morocco. We must maintain our focus, remain composed, and continue working on our collective development.”
