Tahura, Maria, and Monika will play in Farashganj, with international players also taking part.

The women’s football league is set to resume in just two days, and excitement is building as the transfer window closes today. Farashganj Sporting Club has made headlines on the final day by assembling an impressive squad, signing five national team stars: Tahura Khatun, Maria Manda, Monika Chakma, Shamsunnahar Senior, and Shamsunnahar Junior. Additionally, the club has registered two foreign players, bolstering their roster further.

Farashganj’s manager, Baburam, confirmed the news on Friday, stating that the team is now ready for the upcoming league. Star player Tahura Khatun also expressed her enthusiasm, noting that fans will finally see her don the Farashganj jersey. The club has also included several talented players from the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams, highlighting their commitment to blending youth and experience.

As a surprise move, Farashganj has signed two members of Nepal’s national women’s team: defender Pooja Rana and midfielder Sabita Rana Magar. In goal, they have recruited Sejutki, a skilled futsal goalkeeper. The team’s coaching structure features Kamal Ahmed Babu as the coaching advisor, while Abu Faisal has been appointed head coach. Farashganj has finalised a 35-member squad, and Baburam expressed confidence, saying, “We are satisfied with the squad. We hope to fight hard and make it to the final.”

Meanwhile, Rajshahi Stars have strengthened their team with Afida Khondkar, Rituporna Chakma, and Shiuli Azim. Police Club has registered Under-20 national stars including Mosammat Sagarika, along with teammates Kohati Kisku, Surma Jannat, and Airin Akter.

The women’s league last took place in mid-2024, when Nasrin Sports Academy were crowned champions. After a one-and-a-half-year hiatus, the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has hurriedly organised the league to ensure players are match-fit ahead of key international competitions. Next March, the senior women’s national team will compete in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup in Australia, followed by the Under-20 Asian Cup in Thailand the following month. Players such as Mosammat Sagarika and Munki Akter are expected to feature in both tournaments.

All matches in this season, featuring 11 teams, will be held at the Bir Sreshtho Shahid Sipahi Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.
