In a high-profile pre-World Cup friendly that lived up to its billing, the France national football team delivered a statement performance, defeating the Brazil national football team 2–1 despite playing with ten men for the final half-hour. Under the guidance of Didier Deschamps, the French side showcased tactical discipline, rapid transitions, and remarkable mental resilience to secure a morale-boosting victory ahead of the tournament.

From the outset, the match was played at a high tempo, with both sides exchanging attacks in an open and entertaining contest. Brazil enjoyed greater possession, dictating periods of play through midfield control, but France appeared sharper and more incisive in the final third. The breakthrough arrived in the 32nd minute when Kylian Mbappé calmly finished a precise through ball from Ousmane Dembélé, delicately lifting the ball over the advancing goalkeeper to give France a 1–0 lead.

After the interval, Brazil increased their attacking intensity, pushing forward in search of an equaliser. However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the 55th minute when Dayot Upamecano was shown a straight red card for a last-man foul, reducing France to ten players. Despite expectations that the dismissal would invite sustained Brazilian pressure, France responded with organisation and composure rather than retreat.

Instead of collapsing under pressure, France tightened their defensive structure and relied on quick counter-attacks. Their discipline paid off in the 65th minute when a swift transition led to a second goal. Michael Olise delivered an incisive pass into the attacking zone, allowing Hugo Ekitike to finish clinically and extend the lead to 2–0.

Brazil refused to surrender and eventually reduced the deficit in the 77th minute. Defender Bremer capitalised on a chaotic corner situation to bundle the ball home, reigniting the contest. The final stages saw relentless Brazilian pressure, with Vinícius Júnior creating several dangerous moments. However, France’s defensive organisation and goalkeeping heroics ensured they held firm under sustained pressure.

Despite Brazil dominating possession and registering more attacking statistics, France’s efficiency in front of goal proved decisive. Their ability to convert limited chances, combined with a compact defensive shape, ultimately defined the outcome.
