Yamal Plans Lavish London Celebration Ahead of Ballon d’Or Verdict
Barcelona’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal is reportedly preparing an extravagant celebration in London as he hopes to secure his first Ballon d’Or, one of football’s most prestigious individual honours.
The 19-year-old Spanish international remains among the prominent contenders for the award and is said to be increasingly optimistic about his chances. Having experienced disappointment at last year’s ceremony in Paris, Yamal is once again making arrangements for a possible victory before the winner is officially announced.
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona forward believes he has a strong opportunity to claim the coveted prize this year. Should he be crowned the world’s best footballer, he reportedly intends to celebrate with his family and closest companions, with little concern about the expense.
Spanish radio network Cadena COPE has reported that Yamal has arranged a private aircraft to travel to London on Monday, 26 October. He is expected to be accompanied by his parents, Sheila Ebana and Mounir Nasraoui, his reported partner Inés García, other family members, friends and close associates.
Members of his management team are also expected to join the travelling party, reflecting the significance of the occasion for the young footballer and those who have supported his career.
The aircraft is reportedly scheduled to depart for London before midday on Monday, allowing Yamal and his entourage to attend the awards ceremony later that evening.
This year’s Ballon d’Or presentation carries particular historical significance, marking 70 years since the award was first introduced in 1956.
The inaugural winner was legendary English footballer Sir Stanley Matthews, whose achievements helped establish the award’s reputation as a benchmark of individual excellence in world football.
According to the reports, London has been selected as the host city to commemorate Matthews and recognise the origins of the prestigious accolade.
The ceremony is reportedly scheduled to take place at the London Palladium, a historic theatre in the city’s West End, at 9pm local time on Monday.
UEFA has also become involved in the organisation of the Ballon d’Or alongside France Football, strengthening the relationship between European football’s governing body and the long-established individual awards.
For Yamal, however, the occasion represents more than another glamorous evening among football’s biggest names. It offers an opportunity to achieve a personal ambition that narrowly eluded him last year.
Ahead of the previous ceremony in Paris, the Barcelona youngster had reportedly made arrangements for a celebration in anticipation of winning the award.
Those plans were ultimately abandoned when French international Ousmane Dembélé was announced as the winner.
Yamal consequently left the Théâtre du Châtelet without the senior men’s Ballon d’Or, although the evening still brought him an important individual achievement.
He received the prestigious Kopa Trophy, awarded to the outstanding young footballer under the age of 21, further underlining his growing reputation as one of the most exciting talents in the game.
His emergence at Barcelona has been remarkable. Despite his age, Yamal has developed into a central figure in the club’s attacking system, combining technical ability, close control and creativity with an increasingly decisive contribution in front of goal.
The figures cited in the Spanish reports credit him with 24 goals and 18 assists in 45 appearances for Barcelona during the period under consideration.
Such performances have strengthened his standing among football’s elite and contributed to the attention surrounding his Ballon d’Or prospects.
Barcelona’s domestic achievements, including success in La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, have also provided a platform for Yamal to demonstrate his influence in important matches.
His performances for Spain have added to his international reputation, with his ability to create chances, carry the ball into dangerous areas and challenge opposition defenders making him an important attacking presence.
Yet the competition for the Ballon d’Or remains formidable.
England captain Harry Kane has emerged as another leading contender, with several media assessments reportedly placing the prolific striker ahead of Yamal in the race for the award.
The Ballon d’Or recognises outstanding individual performances while also taking account of team achievements and a player’s overall influence during the assessment period.
Yamal’s combination of youth, technical brilliance and attacking productivity has made him a serious candidate, but the final outcome remains uncertain.
For now, the Barcelona forward appears determined to prepare for the possibility of success rather than wait until the announcement before making arrangements.
Last year’s experience demonstrated how quickly expectations can change on football’s biggest individual awards night. This time, Yamal will be hoping that his preparations lead to a very different ending.
Whether his planned London celebration becomes a reality will depend on the final verdict when the Ballon d’Or winner is revealed.
