Brazil Star Oscar Hospitalised with Heart Complications, Could Retire from Football

Brazilian midfielder Oscar has been admitted to hospital due to heart-related complications, his club São Paulo has confirmed. According to local media reports, the 34-year-old is now considering early retirement following this sudden health scare.

Oscar reportedly fell ill during a fitness session at Barra Funda Training Centre, where he was undergoing a rehabilitation programme after recovering from a muscle injury. While cycling on an exercise bike, he suddenly became unwell and was rushed to the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo by ambulance. After receiving emergency treatment, he is now said to be in stable condition, though doctors are keeping him under observation and conducting further tests.

In an official statement, São Paulo FC said, “Following standard medical protocols and respecting the player’s privacy, updates will only be shared with Oscar’s consent once new information is available from the medical team.”

Oscar joined São Paulo in December last year on a three-year deal, returning to his boyhood club after successful stints with Chelsea and Shanghai Port. However, injuries have plagued his comeback season. A fractured hip and several muscle issues have limited him to just 21 appearances across all competitions this year.

Once regarded as one of Brazil’s brightest midfield prospects, Oscar made 48 international appearances between 2011 and 2015. He last played for Brazil in 2015 but remains best remembered for scoring his country’s lone goal in the infamous 7–1 defeat to Germany in the 2014 World Cup semi-final.

Now, with his recent health crisis, uncertainty looms over whether fans will see the gifted playmaker return to the pitch again.
