The BPL Governing Council has formally removed all existing uncertainties surrounding the twelfth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League by unveiling a thoroughly revised and expanded plan. With concerns rising over scheduling clashes, delayed preparations and logistics, this announcement brings clarity and momentum to the nation’s most followed T20 competition.
More than 500 foreign cricketers initially expressed interest in participating in the tournament, but only 250 have made it to the final list. These players, representing a wide range of T20 specialists, will be eligible for selection during the official player draft. Alongside them, 158 local Bangladeshi players have also been shortlisted, offering teams an extensive mix of experience and rising talent. The player draft is set for 30 November at 3pm.
The original tournament plan, which scheduled the BPL from 19 December to 16 January, has been completely restructured. According to the updated calendar, BPL 12 will begin on 26 December and finish on 23 January. Officials stated that the adjustments were necessary to ensure smooth match management, improved player availability and better accommodation of international cricket obligations.
The opening ceremony has been fixed for 24 December, and it is expected to be one of the highlights of the pre-season festivities. Sylhet International Cricket Stadium will host the opening match on 26 December, marking the start of the first leg. Chattogram will host the second phase of fixtures, a venue known for its lively atmosphere and balanced pitches. The final phase, including all knockout matches and the championship decider, will be held in Dhaka.
The number of teams participating in the tournament has increased from five to six following the addition of Noakhali Express. The confirmed list of teams now stands as follows: Rangpur Riders, Dhaka Capitals, Sylhet Titans, Chattogram Royals, Rajshahi Warriors and Noakhali Express. The inclusion of Noakhali has already begun generating regional excitement and discussions regarding the team’s potential strengths.
Staging matches across Sylhet, Chattogram and Dhaka ensures a broader nationwide reach. Sylhet contributes its unique atmosphere, Chattogram its electrifying energy, and Dhaka its hallmark pressure-filled cricketing environment. Collectively, these venues offer a rich blend of conditions that will challenge both batsmen and bowlers throughout the tournament.
Cricket analysts have expressed optimism regarding the updated structure. They believe the newly aligned calendar, the extensive player pool and the expanded team roster will elevate the competitive standard of BPL 12. Franchises have already intensified their preparations, adjusting training sessions and scouting strategies in line with the new timeline.
With the announcement now in place, final preparations across all levels are expected to accelerate. The excitement around BPL 12 has undoubtedly intensified, and supporters are eagerly awaiting the start of a tournament that now promises a more dynamic, diverse and competitive season.
