Bangladesh Olympic Team Penalised Following Post-Match Altercations

The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has imposed financial penalties on a Bangladeshi football player and the team manager following disciplinary breaches during a recent international tournament in the Maldives. The disciplinary action stems from a physical altercation that transpired between the players of Bangladesh and the host nation, the Maldives, during their final group-stage match of a four-nation competition.

Altercation Details and Match Commissioner’s Report

The tournament in question was the Diamond Jubilee Football Tournament, a four-nation competition held at the National Stadium in Malé, Maldives. During the group-stage fixture between the host nation and Bangladesh, an on-field altercation erupted between the participating athletes. Reports indicated that the host team’s football players exhibited aggressive behaviour, which in certain instances resulted in physical contact and assault against the Bangladeshi athletes.

However, two Bangladeshi football players, identified as Al Amin and Mirajul Islam, were also found to have engaged in misconduct directed towards the match referees and the opposing team’s players. Following these disruptive events, the match commissioner compiled a detailed disciplinary report detailing the specific code violations.

Based strictly on the factual findings presented within the match commissioner’s official report, FIFA’s disciplinary body imposed a financial penalty consisting of several hundred Swiss Francs (CHF) on the Bangladeshi striker Mirajul Islam, as well as on the national team manager, Shahin Hasan. Furthermore, the governing body has placed the conduct of the second player, Al Amin, under strict institutional surveillance and monitoring.

Regulatory Context and Tournament Status

The physical confrontation occurred during the June international window. During this period, the senior national football team of Bangladesh was competing in San Marino. Simultaneously, the Bangladesh Olympic football team (Under-23) was deployed to participate in the four-nation tournament hosted by the Maldives, which also featured squads from Pakistan and Afghanistan.
