The uncertainty surrounding the Federation Cup final has been resolved, with Mohammedan Sporting Club agreeing, subject to conditions, to play the Decision match at Bashundhara Kings’ home ground, Kings Arena. The final is now scheduled to take place the following day after the originally planned fixture was postponed.
Mohammedan’s Director-in-Charge, Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan, confirmed the development, stating that officials from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF), including its president, visited the residence of club president Barkat Ullah Bulu to request participation in the final. According to Bhuiyan, the club leadership instructed that a formal assurance be obtained from the BFF guaranteeing that Mohammedan would not face any form of unfair treatment if the match were held at Kings Arena. Following such assurances from the federation, the club agreed to proceed with the fixture at the designated venue.
The final had initially been scheduled to take place at Kings Arena in the afternoon. However, the match could not be held as planned due to Mohammedan’s objection to playing the final at their opponent’s home ground. After securing their place in the final, Mohammedan had, on Wednesday, declined to play against Bashundhara Kings at the same venue. This stance led to a stalemate, raising concerns over the timely completion of the tournament.
In an effort to resolve the impasse, BFF President Tabith Awal convened a Meeting with representatives from both clubs. Despite discussions, Mohammedan initially remained firm in their refusal to play at Kings Arena. The deadlock persisted until further negotiations led to a change in position, contingent upon assurances of neutrality and fairness from the governing body.
Earlier on the day of the scheduled final, Bashundhara Kings had indicated that the match need not be played and that the trophy could instead be awarded to Mohammedan. However, this position was later clarified by the club’s head coach, Bayezid Alam Zobayer, as an expression of frustration from the management.
Zobayer explained that the venue for the final had been determined earlier through a lottery, and Mohammedan had not raised any objections at that stage. He noted that the ا came only after Mohammedan reached the final. He further stated that Bashundhara Kings were prepared to play at any venue in the interest of football, but would now participate at Kings Arena in accordance with the final decision taken after discussions.
The resolution ensures that the Federation Cup final will proceed as scheduled, maintaining the competition’s structure and timeline.
